Program Outline and Course Descriptions

The Associate of Science in Audio Video Production provides hands-on training in the complete media pipeline. Students master audio video theory, digital workstation workflows, and professional techniques in lighting, composition, and sound recording. By utilizing industry standard software, you will learn to manage everything from show design and logistics to final post production sequencing and synchronization.

The Audio Video Production of Associate of Science Degree program is 100 quarter credits and can be completed in two (2) years if the student attends all terms full time and consecutively.

This course introduces students to the skills and strategies needed for success in college and beyond. Topics include goal setting, time management, effective study techniques, and critical thinking. Students will explore resources available to support academic and career growth while developing skills in communication, collaboration, and self-advocacy. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to navigate their academic journey with confidence and apply essential success strategies in both educational and professional settings.

LAU115 Computer Applications
This course introduces students to essential computer applications used in academic and professional settings. Students will gain hands on experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, focusing on the creation, formatting, and integration of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Emphasis is placed on real-world tasks such as document editing, data analysis, and presentation development to prepare students for workplace productivity.

ENG100 English Composition I
This course focuses on developing strong writing and critical thinking skills through various forms of written communication. Students will learn to craft clear, well-structured essays, conduct research, and use proper citation methods. Emphasis is placed on organizing ideas, developing arguments, and refining grammar and style. By the end of the course, students will be able to produce well-reasoned, coherent written work for academic and professional purposes.

MTH101 Introductory Algebra

This course provides a foundation-level introduction to the tools, concepts, and workflows used in audio and video production. Students learn industry terminology, explore digital media formats, and practice essential skills such as file organization, recording basics, editing, and media export. Assignments focus on building practical experience with accessible audio and video tools while developing efficient and professional production workflows. By the end of the course, learners will have a solid understanding of introductory AV concepts and the ability to create and manage simple production projects from start to finish.

VID130 Intro to Digital Video Production
This course provides an overview of foundational video production practices. Students are introduced to basic concepts in planning, shooting, and assembling video content while developing familiarity with essential production workflows. Emphasis is placed on exploring core techniques, organizing media, and building confidence in creating simple video projects from pre-production through final output.

AUD120 Intro to Digital Audio Production
This course introduces students to the essential skills required to work within modern digital audio workstations (DAWs). Learners develop critical listening habits, explore microphone characteristics, and gain experience recording with a variety of accessible devices. Coursework emphasizes core DAW operations including editing, mixing, applying basic processing, and organizing multitrack sessions. Students also explore introductory sound design concepts and creative decision-making within digital audio workflows. By the end of the course, students will be able to record, edit, process, and structure audio sessions confidently using industry-relevant practices.

VID170 Single Camera Production & Lighting
This course focuses on single-camera video production techniques, including shot composition, camera operation, and lighting. Students will learn how to use lighting effectively to enhance the look of video content and improve production quality.

AUD220 AV Technology and Live Events
This course offers an introduction to the technical systems and production workflows that support live events in a variety of settings. Students explore audio and visual technologies; examine key crew roles in live events crews, and study industry-standard approaches to planning, documentation, and troubleshooting. Coursework includes designing system diagrams, planning gear lists, organizing production information, and control systems used in live events. By the end of the course, students will understand how audiovisual components function together in live event environments and be able to plan and articulate a complete AV setup with clarity and professionalism.

AUD230 Audio Recording Techniques
This course introduces students to professional audio recording techniques, including microphone selection, signal processing, and recording environments. Students will explore best practices for capturing high-quality sound for various production applications.

VID270 Video Editing
This course focuses on the principles of digital video editing, providing students with the skills to arrange footage, apply transitions, and refine projects using industry-standard software. Students will learn to enhance storytelling through effective editing techniques.

AUD240 Audio Editing & Mixing
Students in this course will explore audio editing and mixing techniques, including equalization, compression, and multi-track arrangement. The course covers the post-production process, focusing on refining and balancing audio for different media formats.

AUD250 Post-production
This course provides an introductory look at the post-production process, including video editing and sound design. Students will refine their projects through industry-standard editing techniques working towards a professional-level production quality.

AUD260 Video Production for Live Events
This course introduces students to the core workflows of live event video production, including signal flow, routing and real-time decision making. Learners explore essential tools, system design concepts, and production strategies used in concerts, broadcasts, presentations, and other live event environments. By the end of the course, students will be able to plan, operate, and design fundamental live video setups with confidence and clarity.

AUD280 Audio Production for Live Events
This course introduces students to the essential concepts behind live event audio, including system planning, signal flow, speaker coverage, and foundational mixing workflows. Learners explore how live sound environments are organized, documented, and managed, developing the ability to design and evaluate practical audio setups for a variety of event scenarios.

AUD290 Studio Concentration I
This advanced studio course allows students to apply their knowledge of audio and video production to a professional standard. Students will work on individual and collaborative projects, refining their skills in production, post-production, and mastering techniques.
