Laurus College Commencement – Class of 2015
by the Marketing Department at Laurus College
Laurus College held its semi-annual Commencement this past week at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, located next to Laurus College’s campus in Oxnard. The ceremony recognized the achievements of those individuals who completed their Certificate and / or Associate Degree programs in 2015. While the majority of Laurus College graduates do not reside in the immediate vicinity of Oxnard, that did not prevent 41 graduates and over 200 family members and friends living throughout the ‘805’ (and beyond) from attending the ceremony.
Among the graduates in attendance, 24 received “Honors Student” status (3.8 GPA & Higher), and several were awarded a combination of both degree and certificate in their field of study. Associate Degrees and Certificates were awarded in all five (5) of the program areas that Laurus College offers including Digital Arts & Computer Animation, Information Technologies (IT) & Network Systems, Medical Billing & Coding, Professional Business Systems, and Web Design.
“Today is a day of achievement, celebration, and reward,” said Nat Keebler, a Professional Business Systems graduate from Santa Maria, CA, who was nominated by his instructors for the honor of speaking on behalf of the 2015 graduating class. “Whatever our motivation might have been to start this journey, from the promise of a better standard of living to providing for the needs of our families, that first step has been accomplished.”
In addition to Student Speaker Nat Keebler, Laurus College CEO, Dr. David E. Ahn, also addressed the graduating class:
“All of you should be very proud of yourselves today. From your first day at Laurus College until now, I am certain all of you faced many obstacles along the way. The challenges may have been physical, financial, technical, and/or emotional, but regardless of what it was, you persevered and now you are graduating. The character you built and confidence you gained throughout your educational progress will serve you well the rest of your life. You should forever be proud of who you are and what you have become.”
For Laurus College graduates, the journey they share with the college doesn’t end with commencement. Instead, it marks the next milestone in a life-long partnership between the school and its graduates.
“This is just the beginning,” says Chancellor Jeff Redmond, who has been with Laurus College since it first opened campuses on the Central Coast of California in 2006. “While many of the graduates here today have already secured jobs in their chosen career field, we encourage every graduate to continue working with our career services department and maintain the connections they have made with both their instructors and classmates. Graduating from college and attaining work are wonderful achievements that should be celebrated, and as an institution of learning and career development, we believe in supporting our graduates’ pursuit of success throughout their entire career.”
